According to TechCrunch Netflix is now cracking down on users streaming their instant movies service to simultaneous devices. Even though according to Netflix FAQ and Terms of Use you are not allowed to do so they have just recently decided to actually enforce it. What this means now is if you share your account with your family (Like I do) or with friends you can only have one device watch an instant movie at a time. So for example sometimes my parents are watching a Netflix movie the same time I am but it is no longer possible.

Lifehacker has also reported the same story with an update saying:

Update: Netflix is now saying, in an email to GigaOM, they are not enforcing this concurrent stream limitation. The error messages some users have been seeing are just a glitch, apparently, and some Netflix customer service reps may also have been supporting the crackdown rumor—”an error” that the company is correcting. However, this policy, albeit unenforced, of only allowing one stream at a time, depending on your plan, still exists.

If this glitch never goes away or turns out not to be a glitch but them actually enforcing their terms will you still use the Netflix service? For me the answer to the question is a simple NO.

If you have never tried to code because you are unsure where to start or just afraid of what it would be like or any other reason like that then you should take the time to check out this really cool website called Codecademy.com where you learn to do basic coding such as; variables, strings, arrays, while loops, and if statements. With this simple to use and understand but still very educational interface you will soon be on your way to becoming a well tuned coder.

I think one of the coolest things about the site is the fact that it is social. What this means is you can easily keep track and share your progress with anyone. I even think with this feature we might see beginner programing classes using this as a entry level tool to begin and learn how to code.

You may or may not know but in the past I was using SavvySeed as my Seedbox host. Well after having many unfortunate events with SavvySeed I was left on the hunt for a new host. After about a month I came across and finally tried out ByteSized and can say after the first month I am very satisfied with their service. Unlike many other Seedbox providers ByteSized offers some extra features such as VNC to log into your Seedbox and OpenVPN so you can really be discreet about your torrenting activities. I can say that I recommend them and if you are looking for a good Seedbox their prices are very competitive.

Some other cool features included that they don’t talk about is:

The ability to remotely restart your Seedbox through the online dashboard

Easily upgrade your seedbox

Great IRC community

Web Based VNC as well as Application Based.

A year ago I told everyone to use Proxy servers to avoid harassment from your ISP when downloading torrents, but now there are better alternatives. One alternative is to use a VPS host, known as a SeedBox, where you can download your torrents to at fast speeds. The key is they put the VPS servers in a country with no copyright laws making it NEARLY impossible for anyone to legally track the downloading to you. There are many benefits to make the switch to include;

Harder to track you because you don’t download any torrent traffic to your computer through the torrent network. Instead you download it through HTTPS or FTPS.

Faster speeds, most SeedBoxes limit around 10 or less users per server and each server has around a 100MB connection both up and down.

You are now able to share correctly. With this you can leave your uploading going and not fear a slow connection, eating up your bandwidth cap, or even getting caught redistributing the content.

Some Seedboxes offer additional services, like mine offers an HTTP proxy and was very friendly in getting me setup with some good private communities.

Seeboxes are not a alternative to proxies they are a better solution to avoiding the harassment, and doing anonymous torrenting. If you are interested go ahead and check out the provider I am using now (SavvySeedBox) they are wonderful. If you know of some other good providers please leave a comment.

Recently I’ve been trying to find a way to Sync all my documents between Google Docs and my Windows Home Server. Reason I want to do this is because I can get access to files from my server more quickly when at home ,and when at a remote site Google makes it a lot easier to update the documents, and finally a third way to backup my documents other than an external hard drive. The problem I have run into is that there is no way to properly sync between Google docs and WHS. I know there is services out there like Memo, Syncplicity, and Officsync but none of these are perfect. For example, I’ve heard if you create a file on your local computer sometimes the sync process can get messed up.

So I found what might be a solution. Dropbox allows you to sync folders between many computers and also uploads the files to their site for backup and remote access. The only problem is I already use Google for everything and like the single login to get access to my documents, calendar, email and everything else.

Before I make the switch to Dropbox I’m going to give at least one of these Google Docs sync software packages a try, and will report back with my ultimate decision and why I chose it.

Have you ever wanted to open a file but didn’t have the correct software for it? Or wanted to be able to do something like create a PDF document or run your own server but not pay for the well known expensive software like Adobe Acrobat or WHS? You can use Google to find free or cheaper alternatives by doing a vs or alternative search.

For example if you want to find an alternative for creating PDF files type in “Adobe Acrobat vs” minus the quotes and you will get many suggestions. You can also do a search for “Adobe Acrobat Alternative” to find a free or cheaper alternative.

This is also a great tool to use if you need to find alternatives for different operating systems. For example lets say you just switched to a MAC from Windows and you are use to the oh so familiar “notepad” well if you do a search “notepad alternative for mac” you will be filled with a bunch of alternative choices to choose from.
